Ranking MetaSearch Plug-in
You can provide your users with new service - Ranking MetaSearch.
This module allows your users to obtain search results from several different search engines at once.
Several words about how does the Ranking MetaSearch work. It uses following method:
- After submitting a search request by user Ranking MetaSearch Plug-in sends a search request to several external alternative search engines.
- After SmartPPC obtained search results from all needed alternative search engines it launches the unique mechanism of search results ranking . In brief, it may be described so: at first, since different search engines frequently return equal result system tries to get rid of non-unique results then it arranges all results according to their total position in search results and frequency of appearing in results of different search engines. Those listings which were encountered more times will receive higher rank and then results are ranked according to their position in different search engines’ results.
Site visitor will see all results only after their accurately examination and sorting. Also visitors will see from what search engines each of results was taken and what position they have at certain search engine.
Administrator of the site has an ability to customize which of search engines will be used by Ranking MetaSearch Plug-in and how many results should be taken from each search engine.
Ranking MetaSearch Plugin can be easily integrated with other plug-ins. For example: if you will use it with Advanced Search Plug-in (Boolean Search) results from the most of alternative search engines will be taken according to rules ofadvanced search. It is highly recommended to use Ranking MetaSearch Plugin with Cache plugin.
At present Ranking MetaSearch Plug-in supports following search engines: Altavista, Google, Dmoz, Yahoo, Msn, LookSmart, Teoma, Fast (alltheweb.com), Inktomi.
The list of supported search engines may be expanded with other search engines according to wishes of our customers.
