Once the Custom Search Plug-in is integrated into your system, administrators can easily designate new search types by specifying things like topic/website/file type/keywords/domain extension. Users will have access to all of the search types you create for your site. To initiate a search, users must select a search type then enter their search terms into the search box and click the “Search” button. Results will be returned
for the search parameters you define.
For Example:
If you set the following criteria:
Search Type Name: Flowers in NY
Additional Keywords: NY
When a user selects the “Flowers” search type and enters “roses” as a search term, they will get a list of results for the keyword “roses NY”.
When creating a new search type, users may input a name for each new search tab, enter a description and write several lines describing their new search type.
Adding Keywords to Searches
Administrators can specify additional keywords to be used in users' search queries. For instance, if you set “BMW” as an additional keyword and a user searches for cars, they will see results containing “BMW cars” based on the keywords you have pre-defined.
Specify Websites and Domains
For each search type created, the administrator can specify websites (ex.: wikipedia.org, site.com…) or domain extensions (ex.: de, fr, com…). Users will see results only from websites or domains you've specified.
Specify File Type Results
Create custom search types that search only for specific file types.
File types available in the system are: HTML, PDF, DOC, EXL, TXT, and Power Point (PPT).
Personalized Custom Searches
A new “Custom Search” search box is added to users' personalized pages for each search type created. Users have the ability to upload an image for each Custom Search box in the following formats: gif, jpg, jpeg, png.
Social-Networking Features
Users have access to numerous social-networking features related to their search results such as comments, ratings, quick view, favorites and more.
